What is beauty?

In case you were actually watching REAL news this week, you probably missed out on the (not) so hot mess Curious Case of Spiedi....and her 1O plastic surgeries in ONE day.  This blonde bombshell was so pretty before she met that tool!  I was just watching The Soup (one of the best shows ever) and saw the video of Heidi being interviewed saying her message to little girls is that, "beauty is really within!"
R iiiiii  g  h   t   t.

She is going to end up looking like Jenny Lee....

Things like this make me SO mad.  I hate the message that we are sending to our kids about beauty.  The message that is sent to US---you, me, them---all of us.  I wish that the message really was that even supermodles do not look like supermodles.  If you have not seen the following Evolution of a Model video-please watch.

No one walks around airbrushed, but it almost feels with the standard of beauty that has been created that we would have to be walking around airburshed to beautiful in society.  Just a reminder that even all those beautiful actresses out there do not look THAT way all the time.

So today.....tell at least one woman in your life how beautiful she really is.....because sometimes we really need to hear it.

Oh, and thanks for the ASK ME ANYTHING emails and comments...keep them coming!

I'll start with you!! You are beautiful! :) I love your banner pic - very pretty.

I really enjoyed this post. It can be difficult to remember not to compare ourselves to airbrushed models - and discouraging when we do! But yeah - you are right - even stars don't look like stars ALL of the time.

AMEN, lady! I agree with everything you said, and if more women feel the same way, I think we can make sure this twisted version of 'beauty' doesn't take over.

Those women aren't so sparkly without their airbrushing and makeup, but they're still beautiful. And that's what they LOOK LIKE, which is never anything to hide.

Thank you for the lovely comment on my blog :) I hope your kidney stones go away soon and you get better quickly!!!! xoxo

AMEN! I loved seeing all those pictures. It makes me think "I don't look so bad". You are one beautiful lady!

if heidi was around me she would probably go have more work done bc I would tell her how ugly she is...

She was pretty, but not that much... She didn't help herself any...

WONDERFUL post Juliana!! I feel exactly the same way.

And YOU are beyond beautiful :)

Laura said...

No kidding. I'm sick of today's "standards." I personally think Heidi is a moron. But, you know, people will do what they want to do, waste that money instead of giving it to good causes...

I try so hard to keep my self-esteem high but it's hard sometimes. No thanks to things like this.

I agree with Daisy your sooo pretty! But Ewwww to Spiedi! And don't you think Kathryn Hiegl and Katie Holmes look so much prettier natural?!

Thanks for sharing the message and the photos. I like to wear make-up to accent my features, but I'm not obsessed with it...and I don't plan on having plastic surgery. I just plan on bringing out more of my inner beauty. :)

I can't believe what Heidi has done to herself and she's only 23. She just aged herself by I would say 15 years. The sad thing is that she isn't going to stop here, this is probably just the beginning for her. Her self esteem has to be so freaking low because of Douchebag Pratt. I can't wait to see The Hills now to see how this is explained on the show.

This was a great post! You are right about everyone needing to hear words of encouragement from time to time.

Love this post! It is very needed. I tend to forget that the "stars" do not look perfect all the time! I always love to see "stars" without make-up on, just because it does show some flaws which everyone does have! I think they make you who you are! The strive for perfection is way out of line these days. I admire women who's inner beauty shines through!

Wow! That video is crazy! Heidi looks so much older now. I saw her say in a video she truly can't move her face anymore!

When I saw the "new" her I couldn't recognize her It's so sad Thanks for sharing the video I had never seen that before and all those pictures wow those celebs look rough lol but i think i rather see the real them because we can identify with them i.e. jlo has these tiny freckles so do i. im guessin they're from being preggo some latinas get freckles instead of that skin patch... pretty cool ok im rambling im out!

I like your post. I agree that the image that is out there is not what anyone needs. Hedi is starting to look like that other barbie doll lady.

Hope that you get better soon!

I love this post. a LOT.
I hope Heidi does end up looking like that

i think Heidi looks horrible! she should have stopped after her breast enhancement...i have the people mag..right infront of me...and i think she looked awesome prior to those 10 surgeries! infact..i work at the same building that she recuperated at! they are soo good at being hush hush there!

Helena - A Diary of Lovely said...

i cant believe she did that to herself, she looks like a different person!

xoladiihoneyxo said...

Well, you're beautiful and that is no lie =] I believe that woman do need to be reminded that they are beautiful! Some of the actresses are actually pretty, even without the make-up O_O It's just the revolution of tv =T It sends messages out to young boys and girls to think woman should have a flawless face so they end up growing up thinking that way. Then, when a girl wears make-up as much as you would in a photo shoot on a daily base or near that, they're considered as a "whore." Woman should really understand that beauty is within and I agree with everything you said!

When I was younger (and even now) my family keeps telling me that whatever part of me is ugly and that I'm fat. Hello! I'm a size 3 jeans and size small shirts, how on earth is that fat? I looked back at my pictures and I was just amazed how they can possible call me fat because I was wicked skinny. I consider myself as being healthy now. I remember having low self-esteem because of that and just wanted to be beautiful and thought about getting plastic surgery when I grow older. I'm glad I end up loving myself or I'll probably go through with it. I think not only do you need to tell a woman that she's beautiful but also young girls... even boys need it sometimes.

Love this post. And those pictures of the celebrities with and without make-up - I think most of them look better without 10 inches of cake on their face.

You are soooo right!!! Little girls are being trained from a very young age that they have to look a certain way, be a certain size, dress in certain clothes... it's ridiculous! Bullying is on the rise, and I'm sure that has plenty to do with all of this crazy information that's being pounded into these kids' heads! Anywho, Speidi looks nasty now that she got all those surgeries. Even though I thought she was an idiot before, I still thought she had a lot of natural beauty... Now, she looks like a mannequin/robot. Gross.....

sharonjo said...

Great post!!That "before" picture of Goldie Hawn--ouch!!

Liana said...

i loved this! heidi looks redicuoussss now! 10 procedures in 10 hours....which she only considers 1 surgery. Very sad, shes only 23 I can't imagine why she needs botox or a eye lift :(

I think she looks better before, and even her DDDs look so out of proportion. It offends me that she thinks shes wanting to show "beauty is within"..uuugh! anyways love the before and after make up pics to :)

lol - I love that you included Marilyn Manson! And I love that Drew looks just as good fresh faced as she does with make-up. Heidi is such a loser - and I agree I hate the message she is giving girls!

SO thanks for the encouraging words!

GREAT POST!

Heidi is an idiot.. she was naturally pretty before now she looks a hot mess! I seen that evolution of a model video before its amazing the transformation they make but maybe this should be made more public. We all are guilty of trying to live up to the "pretty" people we see on tv.. but its fake.. I mean anything can be done with editing.. and young girls should know the truth. Thanks for posting!

P.s You are beautiful :)

Oh that was something - great photos!!!

I was very surprised about Heidi - she looked 100 times better pre-second ginormous surgeries. I'm not against it because I've gone under the knife before.. But when you can't recognize who you are, that's when you know something is not right...

Cool post!

wow...Heidi looked better BEFORE all that crap. now she just looks like a Playboy wannabe. did she do all that for her stupid boy?? (i don't even know if they're still together) natural beauty is by far the best. & i like all those pictures of the celebs - good reminder that we're all human & imperfect, & beautiful just the way God created us!

Oh yes, I saw that video with Heidi and was shocked! Beauty is definitely within but she's just lying to herself and to others by saying this and showing off her ugly face. Ok, I admit it I liked her years ago before she started adding and cutting stuff to her already beautiful body/face/etc. She was really pretty. And now?! I'm just so shocked. What can we do?! Not much.

We all have our flaws...and I think it's beautiful that way. Loved the pictures you posted. I'd seen most of them already but there quite a few I hadn't...so it always amazes me...make up is an awesome tool! :D woohoo! And computers, too. ;)

Have a great weekend!

And yes, you are a beautiful Juliana!!!!

And yes, its true, the media/society has done a terrible thing focusing on images and ideas that are pretend.

Heidi looks so much OLDER now. Isn't that the opposite than what you would expect/want?

Of all those make-up/non make-up pics, I honestly think Kate Holmes looks better without make-up. She's just a gorgeous girl.

You are absolutely stunning my friend! Heidi on the other hand, not so much after all these surgeries. It's such a shame =( I have considered minor surgeries myself so I can understand the need to feel accepted and how vanity can make you start to analyze even the tiniest flaws but 1) she didn't need it and it's so sad that she went from being happy with herself to this, and 2) 10 surgeries in a day?! Who does that?! I am so sad for her, it truly breaks my heart. She is going to regret this so much and it's going to go downhill from there. As for the other pics, I can identify there as well. I look TERRIBLE with no makeup on! lol. It's amazing what it can do!! But some of these celebs don't need it and it's a shame they feel as though they have to wear it.

I could NOT love this post more.

What a society we live in. I fear for my daughter, and all young girls growing up today in a world teaching us such a distorted self-image.
I saw that video a while ago, and loved it.
I remember even in my days as a pre-teen, I suffered from anorexia and I can honestly say it was partially due to the "images of beauty" I tried desperately to achieve.

I love the before and after pics!! It says it all ;)

Thanks for this great post, and great reminder!!!

How could Spencer want to wake up to something so fake every single day? Why would Heidi exploit her beautiful body like that. I was watching the first season of The Hills a few weeks ago, and even compared to the most recent season that aired Heidi looks like a completely different person. That's what happens when you give a person with no substance a lot of money. That shows that she has absolutely nothing else to do with her time and money other than make a ridiculous fool of herself. She's basically some doctors test dummy. UGH, NEXT!

Sidenote: I'm so glad that LC has remained true to herself and her identity. Celebrities are nothing more than everyday people with a makeup artist.

Post Grad Hair Cut said...

Great post. I think this really goes to show two things: how beautiful some of these women are make up or none and how make up on celebrities can really fool us into feeling inadequate.

I can't believe the difference in Heidi, she doesn't look like herself.

This is a very thoughtful and honest post. It's so true - young girls are brought up to believe that they SHOULD look a certain way, or else they are not worthy of being part of society. Yet this way they are 'supposed' to look is all created - it is a fabrication designed by makeup, crews of artists, lightening, camera, specially designed sets, and, worst of all, photographic alterations.

I am sad for Heidi - she was a stunning women with a bright future, but she has turned herself into a walking contradiction. What makes me even more sad is that millions of young women look up to her - and may feel compelled to follow in her footsteps - when what they should be doing is appreciating their own natural beauty.

Thanks for the thoughtful post.

Great blog. I laughed pretty hard when I saw the before AND even the after pic of Marilyn Manson. He's just too scary for my blood.

I agree with your post because women just seem to worry so much about aging and looking beautiful, and it's because of the media. When men age, they become distinguished; when we age, we just become old crows. It's a nasty double standard.

I AM thankful, however, that there are more and more over 40 high profile beautiful women out there. Keep 'em coming. We need them.

As for Speidi, won't she have to maintain herself now that she's set a nauseatingly high standard for herself? I don't get it. She's way too young to have done what she had done.
